THE Producer Price Index (PPI) for the second quarter of this year has continued to rise due to increased prices of metals and food products.

According to statistics from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the PPI was 8.4% higher than the prices of similar goods produced in the same month last year.

Seth Mayinza the director of production statistics, said prices for metal and food products rose by 20.4% and 9.9% respectively in June 2006 compared with the same month last year.

He attributed the high prices of metals to increased prices of raw materials for metal products like steel, iron sheets and fabricated metals.

Mayinza attributed the high prices of food products to the exchange rate that affected exports mostly.
