WHAT was meant to be a quiet visit by the Newsboys, America’s most celebrated Christian band, climaxed into a loud and impassioned show. The Newsboys had kept away from the limelight, but somehow people got to know that they would be at Uganda Christian University, Mukono, on Friday.

They had been in Uganda since September 11 to shoot a documentary and only done one show at St. Lawrence High School.

As they sang, the audience screamed and stretched out to touch the hem of the stars’ garments.

The pop-rock band is famous in Uganda for hits that include Love liberty disco, Entertaining Angels and Adoration album. Many churches have been using songs off this abum in their praise and worship sessions.

Despite their fame and fortune for 20 years and 13 albums, the boys were humble enough to admit that this was the best show they had ever had.

They have toured the world including Morocco, which they said, was one of their highlights, performing for Muslims.

However, the crowd in Uganda was particularly inspiring. At one point, fans jumped onto the stage and did a train dance, slightly disrupting the show.

The show climaxed in the shooting of a video for two of their songs Go and Something Beautiful, which are part of their new Go album to be released in October. Unfortunately, they ended the show when fans were still screaming for more.
