Namirembe Archbishop Samuel Ssekadde yesterday comforted Mufti shaban Mubajje on the crisis in the Muslim community.

Ssekadde visited mubajje at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) office in Old Kampala.

In a 30-minute meeting, Ssekadde told Mubajje that the public outrage on the leasing of the Muslims’ property was uncalled for.

“Muslims should stay calm. Each religious institution has its problems but are solved through internal organs. The Mufti should not get worried because that is one of the characteristics of a developing institution like the UMSC,” Ssekadde said.

“There was a time when Namirembe Church leased part of its property but after some time, it was returned. But it came out in the press that I had sold church property which was not true. So if the Mufti leases council land, it is not new,” he added.

“What you are experiencing today was bound to happen and will come to an end.”

Ssekadde asked Muslims to emulate Christians in solving problems by not going to the press.

Mubajje, flanked by his deputy, Twaib Mukuye and UMSC Secretary General Edris Kasenene said, “I cannot talk much about leasing of these plots because the reality is known.”

“I have always asked Muslims to remain calm because I believe I have achieved my objectives for uniting Muslims,” Mubajje said.
He asked Muslims to prepare for the opening of the grand mosque at Old Kampala.
