THE Police have acquired alcohol testing machines to curb drunken driving.
The machines, dubbed ‘Alcometer breathlysers,’ can fit in a pocket.

Each machine has a changeable mouth-piece into which a driver blows and have their blood alcohol levels measured.

The Kampala Extra Police chief, Grace Turyagumanawe, said, “If we test you and find that the alcohol level in your blood goes beyond 80 milligrams, we shall retain your car and detain you.”
On conviction, drunken drivers are fined depending on the amount of alcohol found in one’s blood.

Earlier on, drivers had expressed fears of contracting diseases from the former breathlysers, where the same mouth-piece was used by several people.

Turyagumanawe said the overall crime rate had reduced.
