LIRA Regional Referral Hospital is congested, the medical superintendent has said. Dr. Fred Nyangkori attributed the high numbers to the influx of internally displaced persons and the breakdown of health centres due to the LRA insurgency in the region.

He said some wards meant for between 20 and 30 patients were instead accommodating 40 patients.

Nyangkori was on Saturday receiving mosquito nets worth sh530,000 donated by the staff of Stanbic Bank. The 96 nets were for the children’s and maternity wards.

Stanbic Bank team leader Eunice Achola said the donation was aimed at fighting the spread of malaria.

Nyangkori said malaria constitutes 30 percent of health cases received daily at the hospital.

He asked the Government to construct new structures at the hospital because it serves a much bigger population. It serves all the five districts in Lango.
