THE Gandesha family has appealed to the Judicial Service Commission to investigate the conduct of Justice Richard Oscar Okumu Wengi.

The appeal, in form of a petition, was also copied to the Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki, the Principal Judge, James Ogoola, Attorney General Khiddu Makubuya and the Law Council chairman, Elijah Wante.

Wengi has been accused of gross misconduct in cases involving Transroad Limited, an offshore company and Gandesha & Company advocates over costs in which the Gandesha family claims that the judge took a bribe.

The family claims that the judge contrived schemes with other people to defraud the judicial system, the late Gandesha’s wife, the Tropical African Bank and Bank of Uganda of amounts which had already been paid to those parties as beneficiaries.

Vimish Gandesha, on behalf of the Gandesha family, accused Wengi of forging court proceedings by purporting to remove Gandesha & Company Advocates and Tropical Africa Bank as beneficiaries of the proceeds.

“The judge even purported to remove Bank of Uganda as a beneficiary of over sh871m, being the costs awarded to the bank. In the same record of proceedings of the fictitious hearing, Justice Okumu dishonestly and fraudulently stated that the parties were represented by different people without naming them,” Gandesha said.

Wengi has since withdrawn from the cases involving the Gandesha family.
