THE Government has warned a Chinese company, China Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CCICC), that it would terminate its road contract if it continues to perform poorly.
The company is working on the 62km Pakwach-Olwiyo highway in Gulu district
Works minister John Nasasira issued the warning yesterday after he received a report from the supervising consultant, Black and Veatch of South Africa, showing that although 32% of the contract time had lapsed, CCICC had only carried out 1% of the work.
The 3-year contract, at sh28.2b, commenced in March 2004 and is expected to be completed in March 2007.
Nasasira, accompanied by the area MP, Zachary Olum (Nwoya), Gulu LC5 chairperson Col. Walter Ochora and ministry engineers, expressed his disappointment during a meeting in Pakwach after inspecting the road.
Olum and Ochora expressed similar sentiments.
