MBARARA Woman MP Miria Matembe has refuted allegations that she intends to resign her parliamentary seat to become Ugandan MPs’ representative in the African Union.

“I am not going to resign. I am still an MP here until 2006. My case is different from Winnie’s (Byanyima), who resigned from being an MP for Mbarara municipality to take up a job as a director (of Women, Gender and development) in the AU,” she said.

She was speaking in an interview at Westland hotel in Mbarara town on Monday.
Matembe said she was already a parliamentary representative in the AU.

“For one to become an MP in African Union, one must be an MP in his or her country,” she said.
