— President Yoweri Museveni (above) on Saturday met Thomas Bata, the chairman of Bata Group of companies, at State House, Nakasero. Museveni and his guest discussed strategies of improving the quality of Bata products, a State House statement said.

Two held

— The Police on Wednesday arrested two Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) members on suspicion of attempted murder. The CID chief, Vincent Ouma, said David Oceng Penytoo, the LC5 councillor for Lamogi and Stephen Olanya, the LCI chairman of Green Valley ward, were picked from their homes in Green Valley ward in Bardege Division.

Police probe

— The Police and the Chieftaincy of Military intelligence are investigating the murder of a woman on Saturday by a UPDF soldier. CID chief Chris Otim said Pte George Erwaga fired 42 bullets into a passing car in Bombo town, killing Beatrice Nkusi, whose husband was by her side.

Cheeye case
KAMPALA
— A former Police officer has filed a bankruptcy petition in the High Court seeking orders to declare Tedy Seezi Cheeye bankrupt for failure to pay over sh10m in damages. Abbas Kayongo, a former senior assistant commissioner of Police, said the debt arose out of a court settlement.

Court rejects
KAMPALA
— The constitutional Court has rejected a plea by two parliamentary election losers to take their appeals to the Supreme Court. The Court on Friday declared that provisions limiting elections appeal by losers to only the Court of Appeal, was not unconstitutional. Moyo County losers Raphael Baku Obudra and Obiga Kania had filed the petition.
