Kyotera residents who had settled in wetlands have started leaving the area following an order from the National Environment Manage-ment Authority (NEMA).
Last week, NEMA gave them up to April 15 to leave the place.
A farmer, Kalifan Kukumba, who had cultivated over four acres of sugarcane, was seen harvesting them before they were ready.
He said he had collected over sh6m in the sugarcane plantation last season and was expecting to get over sh15m this year.
He blamed NEMA for chasing them away from an area where they had lived for 15 years.
He asked NEMA to give them more time.
