KAMPALA — Democratic Party (DP) president Dr. Paul Ssemogerere yesterday mourned Pope John Paul, describing him as a leader of unequalled profile. He said the Pope worked tirelessly for economic, social, religious and political justice for all people in the world. Ssemogerere said the pope opposed dictatorship, preached high morals and denounced decadence in the society. He said inter-clan raids were common in the area.

Cattle raid
KOTIDO — About 100 armed Bokora and Matheniko warriors on Saturday raided 250 head of cattle from the Jie warriors, the army said on Monday. The 3rd Division army spokesman, Lt. Gabriel Lomogin, said the warriors sneaked into Loleliai village and raided two Jie cattle grazing land. He said the UPDF were pursuing the suspects.

Defiler jailed
KAMPALA — A peasant was yesterday sentenced to five years in prison for defilement. Fred Senyonjo pleaded guilty to the charges before Justice Vincent Kagaba. The prosecutor, Alex Mukunzi, said Senyonjo of Luweero district committed the offence on July 30, 2003.
