TWO pupils died instantly and 18 others were critically injured on Monday when a huge tree fell on a dormitory occupied by primary seven girls at Kachumbala Primary school in Kumi district, writes Nathan Etengu.
The incident at 4:30pm followed a violent storm that uprooted the 49-year-old tree.
The dead were identified as Maria Ilakut and Namusisi. They were crushed to death in the dormitories.
The injured were rushed to Atutur and Mbale referral hospitals.
The headmaster, Jotham Ekisa, said he had just dispersed the pupils when the stormy wind struck.
