Disability is not inability!

SIR — Despite the fact that your ‘Crazy Crazy’ pages are meant for lighthearted reading, I must take issue with your reporter Pidson Kareire’s contribution who asks, “What makes able-bodied people beg? I thought begging was for the disabled.”

SIR — Despite the fact that your ‘Crazy Crazy’ pages are meant for lighthearted reading, I must take issue with your reporter Pidson Kareire’s contribution who asks, “What makes able-bodied people beg? I thought begging was for the disabled.”

He betrays ignorance of the contributions many disabled people make to our communities that is not researched but palpably bigoted.

One is as likely to encounter an able-bodied beggar with a mental disability, as another with a sound mind but with a physical disability, both denied an opportunity due to prejudice such as that of your reporter.

People get into these situations for a variety of reasons although that is not to excuse the bad behaviour some exhibit.
