SPEED merchant Emma Katto sold off his Toyota Celica ST185 during the Sebuguzi fundraising sprint at Garuga on Sunday.

It all started like a joke when a rally enthusiast Desh Kananura sought to buy the car to which Katto without hesitation agreed.

Kananura is a long time friend of Katto.

“It now belongs to Desh. The deal was sealed here. The car was too old for me, I need a better one,” a jovial Katto said.

Kananura, who once ventured into the sport in the 1990s, immediately entered the cockpit and thrilled spectators with corner antics.

Katto declined to disclose the price at which he sold the car that he acquired a decade ago
Asked about which car he intends to buy Katto said, “Wait. I want it to be a surprise.”

Former national champion Moses Lumala won the sprint that attracted thousands of spectators. Charles Muhangi, Riyaz Kurji and Ponsiano Lwakataka also competed in the sprint that grossed sh10.4m.

Upcoming driver Ronald Sebuguzi will use the money to pay off a new Subaru Impreza in Japan.
