SIR — The influx of Bakiga settlers is Kibaale district is causing disquiet among the indigenous population. Bakiga have flooded the district although Kibaale District Council legislated against more settlers.

Even the Kiyonga parliamentary probe committee recommended that no more settlers should be allowed in Kibaale and that illegal settlers who infiltrated the district should be relocated to other districts.

However, the Kiyonga Report never even reached cabinet or Parliament. The Government solution to the land problem has not been effective and has left the indigenous Banyoro squatters in the their own land.

Baganda absentee landlords have simply refused to return land titles to enable Banyoro acquire the land of their forefathers. The perplexed Banyoro have resorted to sending endless memoranda to President Museveni which he has not responded to.

Will President Museveni come to the rescue of the Banyoro like former President Milton Obote did in 1964 when he expelled Baganda voters from the district? We need an answer.
