THE Uganda Land Alliance (ULA) has warned of action against the National Forestry Authority, the National Environment management Authority, kampala City Council and the lands ministry over the ongoing evictions.
ULA coordinator Oscar Okech Kanyangareng said the Constitution and the 1998 Land Act protected the land rights of poor people.
He asked the government to review the mass evictions of people, saying practical measures should be taken to protect the rights and livelihoods of the poor.
In a statement last week, Kanyangareng said land was the only asset that the poor survived on. “Secure access to land is important for the eradication of poverty and hunger among the poor,” he said, adding that authorities should not perpetuate injustice.
