POLITICIANS opposing the referendum want to cause chaos, National Political Commissar Crispus Kiyonga has said.

He said people should be allowed to participate in the referendum process because the power belonged to them.

Kiyonga said it was ironical that some politicians, belonging to parties that wanted political space to be opened, opposed the referendum.

He was presenting a paper on the role of the district Movement conference in opening political space through a referendum in Kabarole district on Saturday.

Kiyonga said the public was worried about the transition to multiparty politics because of the atrocities committed by parties in the past.

“People fear that the Uganda People’s Congress has 99 tricks unknown to people, which it may use once it takes up political power,” Kiyonga said.
