SEVERAL trees in the city are to be trimmed to give Kampala a new look. On Thursday, one of the oldest trees at the Mayors Gardens had its branches cut.
Two men carrying power saws and ropes pruned the branches, which had overgrown. The branches had overstretched into other trees in the gardens.
The Kampala City Council (KCC) environment department authorised the pruning.
The city secretary for health, hygiene and environment improvement, Francis Lubowa, said the branches had overgrown and were looking untidy. He said several other trees in the gardens were pruned.
“We want to tame the trees. Most of them had gone wild and needed to be trimmed. We have been pruning these trees and the exercise is still on,” he said, adding that the trees would not be cut.
