OPPOSITION activist Anne Mugisha Bomwezi has resigned her post as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) coordinator in the USA.
Mugisha cited financial constraints, according to FDC’s national coordinator Sam Njuba.
“It is not new to us. She sent an e-mail to us resigning, saying she was overstretched financially,” Njuba said yesterday.
Mugisha said she would serve the party in another capacity that was not financially strenuous.
Mugisha was a prominent figure in Col. Dr Kizza Besigye’s presidential campaign and Reform Agenda before becoming the FDC’s US coordinator. She left the country about the time Besigye fled into exile in 2001.
Njuba said it was likely that Mugisha had got a job that made it very difficult for her to carry out her responsibilities.
“As the coordinator, Anne had to travel all over the USA,” Njuba noted
However, Mugisha recently expressed unhappiness about few women on the FDC executive.
Mugisha is said to be a major fundraiser for the FDC. In a message posted on the Internet, Mugisha said, “Only the people of Uganda can change their predicament for the better. To do so they must have knowledge. Our task is to give them information. All this work requires funding which can only come from people like you. I have never failed to account to anyone money that has been sent to me for a project and you will not be an exception. You have my word of honour.”
