KAMPALA — Tingey MP Dr. Stephen Chebrot (above) yesterday shunned the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidature, saying he belonged to the Movement. “How can I be an FDC presidential candidate when I am not a party member? In our party, we already have a candidate (president Museveni),” Chebrot said.

Gaetano out
NAIROBI — Former Big Brother Africa star Gaetano Juuko Kaggwa has been discharged from Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted for over two weeks. Prof G.N. Lule, who headed the medical team that attended to Gaetano, said he was fully recovered. At the hospital were his mother Evelyn Kaggwa, Tendo and sister Sanyu.

Bukenya off
KAMPALA — Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya left for Geneva, Switzerland yesterday to attend a high-level science retreat for public health specialists. The retreat is supposed to come up with a new focus on global pharmaceutical companies providing drugs for the third world.

DP monitors
KAMPALA — The Democratic Party (DP) has trained and deployed over 100 youth to monitor the Busiro South bi-election today. A statement issued yesterday by DP spokesperson Jude Mbabali called for the Inspector General of police’s intervention to counter a “State House ploy to avert a free and fair election.”

Police net
KAMPALA — Enforcement of road safety measures continued to bite yesterday as the police impounded 35 vehicles in the city. Ten motorists were arrested and their vehicles impounded and towed to Wandegeya Police Station for defaulting on spot fines while 25 were impounded in Old Kampala.
