The Muslim Sunni Association of Uganda has suspended the head of the Tabliq sect, Amir Sulaiman Kakeeto hitherto a trustee.
The announcement was made during the association’s annual general meeting at Old Kampala on Sunday.
Association head Waheer Karim said Kakeeto had failed to pay membership fees of sh10,000 per year, for the past two years.
He is also accused of trying to renew the land title of Muslim Girls Primary School in Old Kampala without the knowledge of the Sunnis, who jointly run it with KCC.
“He tried to apply for the land title in the name of his Uganda Muslim Tabliq Commu-nity,†Karim said.
However, Kakeeto said on phone, “Sunni is just a title. It does not refer to a Muslim. It is a waste of time to say you have suspended me from the association.â€
Kakeeto also denied the land title allegations, saying he did not even know the Muslim Tabliq Community.
