THE Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has said former president Dr. Apollo Milton Obote is in good health and condemned the media for claiming he is bedridden.

Nathan Kalibala, an official in the Lusaka UPC bureau, yesterday said other than the usual ailments that come with old age, Obote is in good health.

“The media can always say what they want. They use other people’s misfortunes to mint money. I was with Obote two days ago. Even Akena (his son, Jimmy) was there. You do not tell me that I am too blind to see a bedridden person,” he said.

A daily paper yesterday said Obote was recently on drip. The paper said Akena had to abandon his Uganda programmes in order to be at his father’s bedside, adding that even his wife, Miria, had been summoned from Nairobi.

UPC lawyer Peter walubiri said he did not have news about Obote’s illness. he denied that Akena was in Lusaka to attend to Obote.
