SEVERAL parts of the city were yesterday hit by floods caused by the afternoon downpour.

Traffic on Port Bell Road was temporary halted as floods partially submerged several buildings and made sections of the road impassable, causing a jam.

Scores of motorists heading to the city suburbs of Bugolobi and Luzira cancelled their journeys midway, while others span their vehicles around and used Jinja Road, where traffic was smooth.

At Lugogo Bypass, a tree fell in the middle of the road, partly rendering it impassable and slowing down traffic. By press time, the tree was still on the road.

In the flood-prone areas of Bwaise and Kalerwe, houses were flooded and residents battled hard to salvage their property from the raging floodwaters.
Most Residents blamed the flooding on the on-going construction of the Northern Bypass Road.

The chief fire officer, Joseph Mugisa, said there had been no reported deaths related to the afternoon downpour.
