DORCUS Inzikuru and Boniface Kiprop run this weekend as they continue their build up to the World Athletics Final.

The World Athletics final is in a fortnight’s time in Monaco where Kiprop and Inzikuru will be taking part in the 10000m and 3000m steeplechase respectively.

Kiprop runs today in a Brussels Golden League race that will pit him against Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele, the world record holder who forced him into fourth place at the World athletics championships in Helsinki early this month.

Bekele will try to break his 10,000 metres world record of 26 minutes 20.31 seconds at today’s Brussels Golden League meeting with the help of his brother.

The 23-year-old Ethiopian will be aided by his brother Tariku, and will be pursued by 20-year-old Kiprop.

Inzikuru, who has run as world best of 9:15.04 this season, will have pace setters at the IAAF Grand prix race in Riet when she has another go at Russian Gulnara Samitova’s world record at 9:01.59.

Meanwhile, leading athletics sponsors MTN have injected prize money amounting to sh2.8m for both individuals and teams for the national half marathon set for Kampala September 5.

MTN have prior to this provided cash prizes for the cross country, national trials and athletics championship, which all act as a build up to the MTN Kampala International marathon.

Wilson Busienei will not be around to defend the title he won in Mbarara last year because he will be preparing for the September 11 Rotterdam half marathon and the world half marathon in Edmonton, Canada October 1.

The top athlete will walk away with sh0.12m while the top club will get sh0.4m.
