DESPITE not being such a popular sport amongst Ugandans, Spear Motors, a local Mercedes Benz firm hosted the minority Formula One fans at their Nakawa branch on Sunday as they watched the Italian Grand Prix.

And even though many fans turned out donning T-shirts of their favourite motor vehicle companies like Jeep, Renault, Toyota, etc, Spear Motors management never seemed to mind at all as they showered every one with plenty of eats and drinks to boost their enjoyment of the game. Thanks to Mclaren’s Juan Pablo Montoya, who is sponsored by Mercedes Benz for silencing opponents by winning the race.

But, to deal with this boo-boo, they gave out Mercedes Benz’s McLaren autographed T-shirts and caps to lucky winners. All it took for one to win themselves the Mercedes Benz prizes was to predict the first four drivers. At the end of the game, five fans emerged winners.

Rally ace Charlie Lubega received a Mercedes cap in recognition of his contribution towards the development of motor sport in the country.

According to George Mutagubya, Spear Motors’ PRO, the company will continue to support the Formula One Association of Uganda. “This is the beginning. Our relationship with the Formula One Association of Uganda is tight,” he said.
