MPS from Acholi sub-region, under the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG), have accused the Government of bias in responding to rebellions.

“When the LRA terrorises the people in the north and the Government forces people out of their villages, the response shows little political will… but the Government is vigilant in responding to a similar threat in other parts of Uganda, than in the north,” the APG said.

In a statement issued by APG secretary general Odonga Otto (Aruu) on Tuesday, the MPs said the Government’s attitude towards the rebels’ entry into the Democratic Republic of Congo last week was ‘discriminative.’

“We decry the double standard that’s obviously manifest in the Govern-ment’s action over the last five days when the LRA changed to DRC, than when the LRA rebellion was predominantly in northern Uganda and southern Sudan,” the MPs said.

The MPs pointed out the army’s ‘massive deployment’ in western Uganda and the Government’s diplomatic initiatives as ‘evidence’ of their claim.

“When Parliament resolved that the north be declared a disaster area, the Government rejected the motion, yet a few years ago parts of Ankole were declared a disaster area because cows were dying as a result of drought,” they said.
