The death of UPC president Dr. Apollo Milton Obote has caused a chill in the blood of party members in Mbale.
Former chief justice George Masika said, “He was a clear-minded leader who respected the constitution until he had a clash with Kabaka Mutesa, when some of his army officers, including Brigadier Shaban Opolot, were divided.â€
He said Uganda had lost a selfless and straightforward person who did a lot for his country.
The UPC district chairman, Canon Andrew Nyote, described Obote as a guide who encouraged his subordinates to progress with education.
“It is for the same reason that the people whom he encouraged to continue with their education have returned to serve the country, much as some of them have not liked him,†Nyote said, adding that the death was a blow at the time of reorganisation of the party.
