WATER state minister Maria Mutagamba has said Democratic Party (DP) leaders care only about themselves but not their followers.

Addressing residents of Kikungwe at Kalongo church in Kalisizo, Rakai district, on Sunday at a fundraising to complete the church, Mutagamba said DP leaders did not remember those who had worked for the party.

“I was general secretary for DP but what did I gain out of that?”

she asked, adding that she had managed to help the people of Rakai only after joining the Movement government.

She said, “In DP I could not help Ugandans as I have managed to do since I joined NRM."

Four DP diehards, including Kalongo LC1, chief Francis Sempijja defected to the NRM.

Rakai LC5 chairman Vincent Ssemakula said DP did not look for him when he was a member in exile in the 1980s and that it was the NRM that brought him back.
