DEMOCRATIC Party (DP) members who intend to stand for the party presidency are required to submit written applications and a detailed curriculum vita.

The party’s acting national publicity secretary, Peter Polly Mukiibi, said in a statement on Sunday that the applications should be addressed to the party secretary general, Mariano Drametu, who would pass them over to the appropriate party committee.

DP national working committee chaired by Prof. Frederick ssempebwa has appealed to all party members to register at their village branches ahead of the party’s delegates’ conference slated for November 26.

“This is regardless of whether or not one has bought a new party card. The DP district executive committees will send DP registers to all villages. It is these registers that will be used for party elections,” Mukiibi said.

The party held elections for the parish delegates’ conference yesterday. It will today hold elections for the sub-county delegates’ conference and on Thursday for the constituency delegates’ conference. Elections for the district delegates’ conference is on November 12.

The DP national delegates’ conference had earlier been scheduled for October 30 but was postponed to allow grassroots elections to be completed.

Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito, his predecessor Al Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala, the party’s coordinator in the United States, Prof. Richard Otoo Ebil and Gulu municipality MP Norbert Mao are some of the individuals who have declared their candidature for the party presidency.
