UGANDA’S best amateur boxing prospect Sharif Bogere is in danger of losing his career after an accident he suffered last week.

The Kampala Boxing Club (KBC) boxer was knocked down by a motorcycle and lost three teeth on Thursday.

Bogere (right) was walking along Nakivubo road when he was hit by a speeding motorcycle, according to KBC coach Mohammed Hassan.

The injury poses a big risk to the flamboyant boxer seen as Uganda’s medal prospect at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

“It is unfortunate. This might limit his ability to use a gum-shield,” lamented Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) secretary Sande Musoke.

National coach Dick Katende, who was yet to see the injured boxer, was however optimistic. “My prayer is that he didn’t break major bones. As for the teeth, he can always get artificial ones,” said Katende.

KBC have however not given up on the teenager and are appealing to well wishers to fundraise for dentures for the boxer.

Bogere, 17, is one of the four Ugandan boxers entered for the Melbourne games.

Bogere has as a result been dropped from Uganda’s team that departs for the Inter-Cities Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.
Bogere is a Zone V and Kings Cup champion.
