Dr. Rwabukwali is really a rare gem in Makerere University

SIR — I was quite impressed, albeit not surprised, about Dr. Rwabukwali’s dedication at Makerere University as appeared in a letter in The New Vision of December 12.

SIR — I was quite impressed, albeit not surprised, about Dr. Rwabukwali’s dedication at Makerere University as appeared in a letter in The New Vision of December 12. Twenty or so years ago, I was Dr. Rwabukwali’s student. In campus jargon, he hardly “cut” a lecture. Even when he had a cold (which he usually did), he would be there lecturing about his favourite organisational theorist Amitai Etzioni. Even in difficult circumstances, Dr. Rwabukwali would be there, for example during the Ogenga Otunnu (UPC)-Ebile Otto (DP) guild wars. While Special Forces were administering tear gas in handsome proportions to students in the Freedom Square, Dr. Rwabukwali was in the lecture room. He had time to read all our assignments, to the extent that students who jointly researched and submitted their course works separately got the same grade. On a lighter note, Dr. Rwabukwali, do you still use that complex book by Etzioni or have you moved to Drucker and others?
