RWANDA will take part in the East Africa women championship in Nairobi from January 5 for the first time.
They will join Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania in the competition that was earlier scheduled for December 4-16 but was postponed on the request of the hosts.
Rwanda will be taking part for the first time since its affiliation to the International Cricket Council in 2003.
“All the four local associations have confirmed and preparations are in high gear to host them in Nairobi,” Tom Tikolo, the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) tournaments coordinator confirmed yesterday.
“We are ready for the championship and I am confident the girls will return home with the trophy,” national coach Charles Lwanga said. The national team is currently based at Lugogo.
Tikolo also confirmed that the U-15 boys’ tournament would concurrently take place in Nairobi with teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
The winners of the U-15 category would qualify to play at the Africa U-15 World Cup qualifiers slated for South Africa.
