KAMPALA — Two men were yesterday committed to the High Court to face trial for allegedly killing a woman. Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Justine Atukwasa committed Julius Kabuye, 25, of Namungona Kasule Zone and Ronald Ssekito, 18, of Banda for murdering Eva Nakanwagi.

Year starts
KAMPALA — The Law Year 2004 will officially be opened today at the High Court by the Chief Justice, Mr Benjamin Odoki. The annual event is aimed at preparing the Judiciary for business for a particular year. The function will be attended by lawyers and employees of the Judiciary.

‘No budget’
KAMPALA — The chairman of the General Court Martial, Lt. Gen. Elly Tuwmine, has said the court was not given money to facilitate the ghost soldier probe. He said yesterday the court business would be executed as normal and the hearing would be open to the public.

Merit pledge
KAMPALA — The Aga Khan Education Service in Uganda has said students will be admitted to the planned academic centres of excellence on merit. The chairman of the education service, Niazali Hirani, said yesterday bright students from poor families would be given scholarships and benefit from the bursary scheme.

Alam buried
KAMPALA — Tears flowed easily at the burial of Jaffer Shanina Alam, who was crushed to death by a train on Tuesday. Shanina, wife to Zaid Alam, the managing director of Inns of Uganda, a subsidiary of Alam Group of Companies, died when the car she was driving rammed into a train at Kinawataka.
