In Livingstone Hall at Makerere University, a student survived being electrocuted when he stepped on live wires he was using to prepare “bush,” local porridge.
Bateyo, a second year student of social sciences, was preparing porridge using what is called “suicide,” when he heard a knock on his door, but blindly ran to the door to peep through the keyhole. He was unfortunate, because he stepped on the electric-wire and was shocked.
The power threw him all over the room, and then the door miraculously opened. His girlfriend from Complex Hall, (C.C.E) who had come to visit him had knocked on his door. She was right there, and was so terrified when she saw a shivering Bateyo amidst a disorganised room.
However, she somehow they started to argue when she realised that Bateyo was preparing bushera. She angrily asked, “But the other time you refused our bushera in C.C.E, saying you don’t use bushera, you said you use soft drinks only. It eventually ended when the students intervened.
