The agriculture minister, Dr. Kisamba Mugerwa, has warned the populace to stop begging for money and other basic needs from their MPs if they are to fight poverty.

Kisamba attributed the increased rate of poverty among the masses to continued begging from politicians instead of working.

He warned that if the populace did not stop the begging habit, they would beget corrupt leaders.

“Many politicians fear to visit their constituents for fear of personal requests from the electorate. Sometimes politicians become corrupt in order to fulfil the electorate demands,” he said.

He said this during the New Year’s Juma prayers, at Kiteme Mosque in Luweero district.
