HIGH voltage electricity ripped through Mbuya II parish, a Kampala suburb, in the wee hours of Saturday morning and damaged electrical gadgets worth millions of shillings.

This came less than 24-hours after Rubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi led a demonstration against high power rates effected recently.

“I had something burst while in my sleep, only to wake up and discover that my radio was almost catching fire. When I reached my light switch, the florescent tube also blew and I immediately rushed for the main switch,” Salim Wasajja, a resident of Zone 5, said.

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Kampala area manager Robert Mubiru said a technical team would be sent to make a report.

He said UEDCL would forward the report to its insurers for possible compensation.
