THE Mbale LC5 chairman, Ellias Mujasi, should be cautioned rather than being sacked, the Minister of Local Government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, (right) has recommended.
In a letter to the district speaker recently, Kabwegyere said there was no need of appointing a tribunal to remove Mujasi, adding that the district would only develop if leaders resolved their differences amicably.
“If Mujasi does not change after the warning, I will appoint a tribunal to handle the petition,” Kabwegyere said.
A group of councillors had petitioned the minister to dismiss Mujasi on allegations of abuse of office.
The district council alleged that Mujasi had usurped powers of the district service commission from holding interviews for the post of deputy chief administrative officer and instead appointed Kenneth Wanaiaye as acting CAO.
Mujasi had written to the commission stating that Wanaiaye be given a chance compete for the post.
Kabwegyere said Mujasi’s mistakes had been reversed and did not warrant a tribunal.
“It would be detrimental for the district to pay costs of the tribunal when it was facing financial problems.
