UGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) could cut down on the officials travelling to Athens because the hosts will provide most services at the Games Village.

A doctor, the UOC has revealed, might not travel. The doctor’s allowances will be diverted to the athletes.

UOC president Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso, fresh from visiting Athens’ facilities during a working trip, said that the hosts are providing nearly everything at the modern village.

“There is so much we might not need including doctors since the organising committee will be employing full time doctors at the games village. They are giving us a physiotherapist, nutritionist, bedding and a dining hall open 24-hours a day,” Nyangweso reported.
The organisers are also providing full air tickets to all athletes who will qualify.

Uganda intends to send teams in athletics, weightlifting, cycling, canoeing, boxing , shooting, swimming, wrestling and badminton.

The IOC gave Greece’s new government a two-week deadline to take tough decisions on delayed Athens Olympic projects.

While praising Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis’s efforts in his first week in office, and giving an upbeat forecast that Athens could be ready, International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said the time had come for “right decisions”.

He said concerns existed about arrangements for the August 13 to 29 Games and the IOC had given Karamanlis a file listing its greatest worries, including a delay in building a roof over the main Olympic Stadium.

“There is a window of opportunity of about two weeks to study the file and take decisions. But our experts are adamant that there is still enough time to finish everything and have a success,” Rogge said.
