POLITICAL forces in the consultative forum with the Government have called for the amendment of the Political Parties and Organisations Act to allow parties go to the grassroots to hold dialogue with the people, reports Joyce Namutebi.

The call was made yesterday during the 24th consultative forum at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

Robert Kitariko (left) of the Democratic Party said the Act and the Penal Code should be amended to enable parties listen to the people. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda chaired the meeting.

He welcomed the new parties, saying all of them must be given opportunity to seek sovereignty at the grassroots level. However, he said the multiplicity of parties in itself would not enhance democracy.

The new parties include Farmers’ Party of Uganda led by Nsiko Bomboka and Uganda Mandate Party led by Mulunga Wanjala Wagobe.
