SECURITY agents in Lira have arrested seven people in connection with road ambushes.

The deputy resident district commissioner, Sylvester Opira, identified the group leader as Geoffrey Adar from Abako sub-county in Moroto.

Addressing Lango and Acholi cultural leaders on the security situation at Pan Afric Hotel in Lira town, Opira said the gang is said to have ambushed several vehicles on Lira-Aloi road, killing soldiers and injuring a number of people.

“Peace is returning to Lira but there are some thieves disguising as rebels and staging ambushes on the roads. We will bring all the culprits to law,” Opira said.

Opira said the number of rebels had gone down because of the recruitment of the Amuka militia and hard work by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

“We need to remain alert to finish off the final threats,” he said.
