The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) met recently to debate and approve the budget estimates for the East African Community for the 2004/05 financial year.

The EAC council of ministers last month approved the community’s budget proposals amounting to $11,892,899m pending debate and approval by the EALA.

The chairman of the council of ministers will present the budget to the assembly on May 20. The meeting will end on June 1.

The assembly will receive reports from sectoral committees like agriculture, tourism and natural resources, regional affairs and conflict resolution, communication, trade and investment.

EALA is the legislative organ of the EAC. It has 32 members, 27 of which are elected.
