Enthusiastic women activist Hon. Miria Matembe (right) will stop at nothing to fight for the cause of women. At a Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET), workshop discussing domestic relations at Tropical Hall, Hotel Equatoria last Friday, Matembe, an invited guest, lost her cool and came short of slapping Martin Kiiza, the Vice President, Uganda Journalists Association.

The trouble stemmed from the scribe’s contribution to a debate: “...I think at divorce, women should take nothing since most of them hardly carry any assets on their way to marriage...” the soft-spoken UTV journalist vouched, prompting a lashing from Matembe:

“Could you please shut up and walk out! That’s the most unfortunate and insipid statement I have heard in years!”

She shot up from her seat in a fit of rage as she said, “Don’t women carry beauty into marriage? Isn’t it an asset?” she asked furiously, completely gagging the journalist.
