THE UPDF helicopter gunship supported by the ninth battalion over the weekend hit a group of LRA rebels under the command of Maj. Ocan Onono and killed 12 of them.
The group allegedly attacked Kalabong IDP camp on Thursday, killed 23 civilians and set ablaze over 100 huts.
The Army spokesperson for northern region, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, yesterday said the rebels were cornered south of Lipan Game Reserve in Kitgum where they were hiding and planning to flee to southern Sudan.
“Our 9th battalion supported by the chopper fought the rebels and killed 12 of them. We suffered no casualties,†Ankunda said. He said the Army captured three rebels with six rifles and seven loaded magazines.
“This is the time for all Ugandans to get annoyed and express their anger physically against the LRA,†he said.
He said the UPDF struggle against the LRA would continue until the war comes to an end.
