THE majority of the sessional committees of the seventh parliament have retained their leadership and membership, reports Cyprian Musoke.

Only the legal and parliamentary affairs, presidential and foreign affairs and the natural resources committees got new leaders.

Senior parliament public relations officer Kagole Kivumbi (left) said, “if you want to put it in percentages, the change can only be 30%.”

Simon D’Ujanga (Okoro) replaced Eng. Ndaula Kaweesi as chairman of the natural resources committee, while Lule Mawiya (Kalungu east) replaced Loyce Bwambale as vice-chairperson.

Simon Mayende (Samia Bugwe) was reinstated as the chairman of the defence committee together with his deputy Betty Udongo (Pachuto).

Kivumbi dismissed allegations that prominent anti-third term Mps had been forced to withdraw from committees.

“Their committees were oversubscribed, which had never happened before. I believe every Mp who withdrew, did it in good faith and for the good of the institution,” he said.
