LIRA district council has approved a sh31b budget for the 2004/5 financial year.

The budget is 8% higher than last year’s due to increased wage bills of the education sector to match the demand for Universal Primary Education.

The district secretary for finance, Angelo Ocen Ogwal, presented the estimates to the council during a meeting on Wednesday.

He said the local revenue collection reduced from 68.3% in 2003/2004 to 38.4% due to the insurgency.

Ogwal said the district expected 2.23% of the budget from local revenue and donor funding.

He added that the conditional capital grants, conditional current, equalisation and unconditional grants would fund 97% of the total budget.

Ogwal said the objectives of this year would focus on improving service delivery to the local population, with more emphasis on result-oriented management.
