FORMER Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) president Celestino Mindra is seeking to get light heavyweight James Lubwama a Commonwealth title shot with Nigerian champion Peter Oboh next year. “I have been pushing for him to get this title shot and I decided in our last convention that we keep this crown in our continent,†Mindra said.
“The council has given Oboh 90 days to defend his title and we saw the only option being our Ugandan fighter.†Mindra didn’t seek another term in office at the CBC assembly in Accra, Ghana last month. However he still remains a director of the body.
Lubwama, who is based in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA, together with IBF light middleweight champion Kassim “The Dream†Ouma recently acquired a green card that will enable him fight outside the United States. “He is a good fighter and has kept a good professional record, this one will open up better things for him,†Mindra said.
“He has been keen on getting a Commonwealth title shot and we hope that his fire is still there.†Lubwama, 35, a former national skipper for the The Bombers has a record of 16-2-1(9 KOs).
