President Yoweri Museveni has sent a congratulatory message to US president elect George Bush.

Information minister Dr. Nsaba Buturo told journalists that museveni expressed appreciation for America’s support to Uganda.
Buturo said this during a weekly press briefing at Nakasero in Kampala yesterday.

Citing the AGOA, Buturo said the US allowed Uganda and other African countries into the American market, quota and tax-free.

On reports that Museveni recently said he supported Bush blindly in the Iraq war, Buturo said the President’s words were twisted by the media.

He clarified that Museveni said he believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and had connections with Sudan, which was supporting the LRA rebels.

Buturo said Museveni’s support for America was primarily to protect Uganda from those weapons, which could have entered Uganda through Kony and his contacts.
Buturo also praised Kerry, saying he exhibited maturity when he conceded defeat.

He said for Kerry, the important thing was the interest of America not his personal interest, unlike some Ugandan politicians, whose interests override those of the country.

Buturo also lashed out at the Forum of Democratic Change, saying it was deliberately misleading people on its registration as a political party.

He said the verification of the seven political organisations which applied for registration would be completed next week, after which they would be gazetted and then registration would follow after 30 days.

Buturo also urged the Broadcasting Council to revisit and tighten licensing terms to cancel licences of media stations which insult people.

He said some FM stations persistently ridiculed the President.
