MTN Publicom last week celebrated five years in operation.

During a cocktail at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, MTN Publicom chairman and MTN chief executive Noel Meier, said they had installed 2,500 pay phones through out the country.

MTN Publicom chief executive Francois du Plessis, said when the first phone was installed in 1999, it cost sh400 to make a call, today it costs only sh200.

Du Plessis decried the current loadshedding in the country saying it was likely to affect their operations.

Communications state minister Micheal Werikhe said Government was glad that MTN had kept its obligation to provide pay phones through its subsidiary company, Publicom, which he said was an important contributor to the economy.
