Nobody really thought she had the best body of all the girls that made it to the finals, but Miss Uganda 2004, Barbara Kimbugwe, managed to be the only girl from Africa to make it into the Top 20 of the 2004 Miss World Swimsuit contest.

According to Sylvia Owori, organiser of the Miss Uganda contest for the past four years, Kimbugwe managed to be ranked 13th among the 120 girls that are in Sanya, China, for this year’s Miss World contest.

“I spoke to Barbara on Sunday morning, before the finals of the swimsuit contest were held and she told me that she was the only African girl in the Top 20,” Owori said. “Eventually, she was placed 13th. But she was also doing well in the Miss talent, having reached the semi-finals.”

Kimbugwe was supposed to perform the Kiganda dance Bakisimba for the talent contest, and was apparently paired up in the semi-finals against Miss Ethiopia, who was also due to perform her native dance.

Meanwhile, the Miss World website announced on Tuesday that Miss United States, Nancy Randall, won the swimsuit contest, also known as the Miss Beach Beauty contest.

First Runner-Up was Miss Australia, Sarah Janette Davies and Miss Trinidad & Tobago became Second Runner-Up.
The other top ten girls came from Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia.
