Mukwano Group of Companies will spend over $120m (sh211.2b) to expand in east and central Africa, an official has said, reports David Muwanga.
“The biggest part of the investment is the Mukwano Agriculture Project, which has 20,000 small holder farmers. We are targeting 200,000 farmers in five years and investing $100m over the next 10 years,” the group’s managing director, Alykhan Karmali, said.
He said this on Thursday at Hotel Equatoria, Kampala, where distributors and customers won prizes worth sh10m.
Karmali said since they were certified by the International Standards Organisation, they aim at penetrating Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya and Tanzania.
He said they were also targeting Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
